Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Seeks Official Corporate Partners

AUSTIN – For the first time, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is seeking Official Corporate Partners to raise additional revenue to help meet financial challenges, including those facing state parks due to drought and wildfires. This new funding strategy was made possible during the last legislative session by the passage of House Bill 1300, in which state lawmakers gave TPWD authority to develop partnerships with private businesses.

Longhorn Cavern State Park Provides Illuminating Experience

Staff from Texas Parks and Wildlife, Longhorn Cave Tours, Inc., area chambers of commerce, as well as volunteers and dozens of guests were on hand at Longhorn Cavern State Park Thursday evening to cut the ribbon and ceremoniously “reopen” the popular Hill Country destination, following a major renovation of the cave’s lighting system.

Aplomado Falcon Chicks Released at Mustang Island State Park

The colorful Aplomado Falcon is regaining a foothold in parts of Texas where they disappeared more than a half-century ago. On July 1, biologists began releasing captive-bred Aplomado Falcons to the wild for the first time at Mustang Island State Park to take advantage of additional habitat that the endangered birds of prey need to survive.

Longhorn Cavern Sporting New Lighting System

BURNET — Add one more reason to visit or revisit Longhorn Cavern State Park this summer other than its constant 68-degree environment. Workers have rewired the National Registered Landmark and replaced decades-old incandescent lights with hundreds of energy-saving, 12-volt halogen lights to better illuminate the cavern’s most outstanding natural features.

AUSTIN — Dallas Safari Club (DSC) leaders today delivered a $50,000 check to support Texas Parks and Wildlife Department programs for public hunting, conservation, education, state parks and law enforcement.

$3 Million in Trail Grants Awarded Across Texas

AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission today approved $3,014,992 million in federal funding for 26 National Recreational Trail Grant projects in communities across the state. The total includes $485,000 in re-allocated trail funds for trail improvements in seven state parks.
