New Cabins Underway at Possum Kingdom State Park

CADDO — One of Texas’ most scenic and popular water-sport parks will soon boast two new rustic-style cabins to meet the eager demand of year-round visitors. Thanks to bond funding authorized by the Texas Legislature and approved by statewide voters, Texas Parks and Wildlife is currently replacing two dilapidated Possum Kingdom cabins built shortly after World War II. The new cabins, to be completed this fall, will have increased space and amenities, be more fire resistant and meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

Guadalupe River State Park to Open New Center for Kids April 24

SPRING BRANCH — A strolling spider expert in safari gear, guided nature walks, crayfish displays, bird-banding and a live reptile show-and-tell are just some of the activities planned for Guadalupe River State Park’s Earth Day celebration from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, April 24. The special day also marks the grand opening of the Children’s Discovery Center.

AUSTIN — Texas state park visitors will soon be benefitting from a full slate of major repair projects getting under way this year that are designed to rejuvenate the aging Texas state park system and greatly improve customer service, thanks to bond funding authorized by the Texas Legislature and approved by statewide voters.

McKinney Falls State Park to Hold Easter Egg Hunt April 4

AUSTIN — Spend Easter Sunday outdoors with the family and join the Friends of McKinney Falls State Park as they host an Easter Egg Hunt at McKinney Falls State Park at 2 p.m. on April 4. Hunts will be divided into age groups from toddlers to 15-year-olds, and eggs will be scattered around the park for the kids to find.

13 State Parks to Host Go Fish! Events This Spring

AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department wants to make it easier for Texans to go fishing and this year has renamed and expanded its learn-to-fish initiative to include dozens of special springtime events being held at 13 state parks throughout Texas.

AUSTIN — Almost 200 acres encompassing the iconic bluff, Old Baldy, overlooking the Frio River officially became part of Garner State Park on Wednesday with the signing of real estate documents transferring ownership to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
