Soil and Water Stewardship Week Touts Importance of Pollinators in Texas

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has partnered with the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board, Association of Texas Soil & Water Conservation Districts, Texas Wildlife Association, and Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association to highlight the importance of voluntary land stewardship in Texas. The Importance of pollinators to soil and water conservation in Texas is the theme of this year’s Soil and Water Stewardship Week, April 29 through May 6, 2018.

TPWD Outdoor Adventures Area Offers Free Family Fun at Lake Travis May 19-20

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is hosting a TPWD Outdoor Adventures Area May 19-20 by Lake Travis at Jones Brothers Park in Jonestown. At this event visitors of all ages can try fishing, archery and other fun outdoor activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. completely free.

Texas Game Wardens Crack Down on Illegal Fish Trade in Houston Markets, Restaurants

AUSTIN — State game wardens issued more than 150 citations to 19 fish markets and restaurants in the Houston area that illegally purchased game fish from undercover officers during a recently completed sting conducted by the Special Operations unit of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Law Enforcement Division.

TPWD Projects 82-Day Red Snapper Season for Private Recreational Anglers in Federal Waters

AUSTIN- Private recreational anglers fishing in federal waters off the Texas coast will see a projected 82-day season starting June 1 under an agreement between the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). This is an increase of 40 days from last year’s red snapper season.

TPWD Unveils New Alligator Gar Website

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) unveiled a new website April 13 to educate and inform Texans about alligator gar – the largest freshwater fish in Texas and one of the largest freshwater fishes in North America. The site, which can be found at tpwd.texas.gov/texasgar, features informational articles about alligator gar and the findings of studies conducted by TPWD biologists.
