AUSTIN— The frigid temperatures that hit the Lone Star State on the first day of 2018 weren’t enough to deter park goers from participating in First Day Hike events as part of the national initiative.

Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame Announces 2018 Inductees

ATHENS – The Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame committee announced Shannon Tompkins, a reporter and columnist at the Houston Chronicle; and the Lake Fork Sportsman’s Association (LFSA), an organization that works to protect and promote Lake Fork’s natural resources, will be inducted into the hall of fame in 2018.

Panhandle Roadkill White-tailed Deer Tests Positive for Chronic Wasting Disease

AUSTIN – A roadkill white-tailed deer collected by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department personnel on U.S. Highway 87 between Dalhart and Hartley has tested positive for chronic wasting disease. This marks the first discovery of CWD in a Texas roadkill and the first case in a Texas Panhandle whitetail.

Authorities Asking Public for Help Locating Vehicle of Interest

AUSTIN – Law enforcement officials are asking the public for help locating a vehicle of interest and with identifying individuals responsible for injuring a Texas game warden during a traffic stop New Year’s Day. The incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. in an area due east of Plum Grove Road and the Harris / Liberty County line in Liberty County on private property.

AUSTIN – With the launch of the new year-round participation season Jan. 1, the Toyota ShareLunker Program is debuting a new website and mobile app to facilitate entries and provide anglers with news and updates.

Temporary Fishing Closure in Place on Texas Coast during Freeze

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has issued a temporary closure to saltwater fishing along parts of the Texas coast to protect resources during freezing weather conditions. The closure takes effect at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2 and extends through 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018.
