Seven Grants Awarded by Winners of Great Texas Birding Classic

AUSTIN— The 22nd annual Great Texas Birding Classic (GTBC) has wrapped up another year and the winners of the largest and longest bird-watching competition in the United States have chosen seven conservation projects to award grant funds. Grants range in amount from $2,750 to $10,000.

Public Meeting Scheduled to Discuss Big Tree Natural Area

ROCKPORT— The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will hold a meeting Aug. 1 to collect public input for the development of new facilities at Big Tree Natural Area at Goose Island State Park. The natural area is an 80-acre site that expands the existing location of the famous “Big Tree.”

Commercial Gulf Shrimp Season Opens Saturday, July 15

AUSTIN- The Gulf of Mexico commercial shrimp season for both state and federal waters will reopen 30 minutes after sunset on Sunday, July 15, 2018. The opening date is based on an evaluation of the biological, social and economic impact to maximize the benefits to the industry and the public.

Texas Game Wardens Stress Continued Water Safety Vigilance

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is urging the public to be extra vigilant when it comes to water safety in the wake of five tragic drownings over the July 4th holiday. Thus far in 2018, there have been 37 open water drownings, compared to 30 over the same time period a year ago.

Applications Now Accepted for TPWD Drawn Hunt Permits

AUSTIN – Hunters can start making plans for the upcoming seasons now by applying for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Drawn Hunts. The online system is currently accepting applications and the first hunt category deadline is less than a month away.
