Birding with a Ranger
Join a ranger and discover and learn about birding!
Come explore the wonderful birdlife of Big Bend! Join a Ranger at the Hoodoos for a fun birding experience. Everyone, no matter your skill level, is welcome.
When: Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 9 AM.
Meet: Hoodoos Trailhead. Located on FM 170 (River Road), approximately 25 miles west of Barton Warnock Visitor Center and 25 miles east of Fort Leaton State Historic Site.
What to expect: We will hike the Hoodoos Trail, a 1-mile loop with about 95-100 ft of elevation gain. It's classified as an easy hike, though some parts have uneven terrain, loose gravel, and sand.
What to Bring:
- Water and snacks
- Sunscreen
- Binoculars (optional)
- Field Guide (Optional)
Cost: This event is free with park admission, $5 per person 13 and older. Park Admission is free with a Texas State Parks Pass.
