Sunset Swifts
Fri, June 12, 2026
What's that? A swooping, swirling tornado of birds! Come watch with Chimney Swifts at sunset!
Have you heard of the speedy bird that looks like a cigar with wings?!
We will see if we can witness the winged tornado as they re-enter their roost - like bats!
Park at the Scenic Overlook then walk up the road about 150 yards to the concrete water tower where these birds roost! Please be cautious on the road as it most likely will be active with cars.
Bring: Bottled water, a folding chair, binoculars, and wear bug spray!
This program is free after park entrance fee is paid. If you arrive after our park HQ is closed (open 8am to 4:30pm) you can pay your entrance fee outside of the HQ. At the kiosk station there will be after hours permits that you can fill out. Follow instructions, bring cash or check, the envelop with payment will go in the iron fee box, and the tear off permit with the sticky back will go on your car window. We will be checking that everyone has a day permit.
Park entrance fees are $5 per adult, children 12 and under are free. If you have a State Park annual pass, the entry fee is free but you still need to fill out a permit and have the permit on your windshield. There is a place on the permit to write your annual park pass number.
