Using keen eyesight, binoculars and spotting scopes, watch in awe and help keep count of the many raptors flying over as they continue their migration.

A hawk soars through the clear blue skies of the park.
Hawk Watch at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park and World Birding Center

4/23/24 UPDATE:  Due to unforeseen circumstances, Spring 2024 Hawk Watch has ended early.  Fall counts will start up in September.

Join park volunteers and naturalists to spot, identify, and count thousands of migrating raptors.  Hop on the shuttle and meet at the Hawk Tower every morning in March and April (weather permitting).  Bring your binoculars, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and drinking water.

Birds of prey are important indicators of environmental well-being.  Bentsen's annual Hawk Watch contributes to Hawk Count, a long-term study monitoring raptor population trends and the largest standardized raptor migration network in the world. Hawk Count is a project of the Hawk Migration Association of North America
