Paddling 101

Learn the basics of paddling with a ranger and test your new skills on our Saw Mill Pond!

Accessibility: Parking will be available at Saw Mill Pond. Restroom is available nearby. Drinking water is available at water spigot. Path to program is pavement and concrete sidewalk. Canoe launch is rough terrain with unlevel ground and tree roots.

Registration: A waiver will need to be signed at the beginning of the program. Only 5 canoes will be available during the program. Each canoe can hold 3 persons up to 700 pounds. Additional canoes are available for rent at the front office. If you rent a canoe, you are welcome to join the program.

Program Expectations: Program will consist of a paddling instruction presentation and mandatory safety portion. After instruction course, a ranger will assist participants into canoes and lead a guide around Saw Mill Pond. Participants are welcome to go off by themselves but MUST NOT LEAVE SAW MILL POND. All canoes during the program are free. After 11:00 a.m. canoes will be available for rent from the front office. Expect the possibility of getting wet so bring clothes and shoes you do not mind getting wet.

Program is included in park entry fees- $4 per person ages 13 and older, 12 and under are free. No need to register, just show up! Programs are subject to cancellation in the event of inclement weather. Cancellations will be announced on Caddo Lake State Park Facebook page or you can call park headquarters.
