Native American Atlatl Hunting

A family-friendly blast to the past. Hunt like the Native Americans used to, with real Atlatls!

Program Expectations: Our Atlatls are five-foot-tall wooden spears thrown with the dominant arm, utilizing a slingshot-like device. Ages 8+!

Participants will learn to throw these devices at foam animals to simulate hunting, and participate in a competition should time allow.

When:3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Where: Event is held in the Gym or Archery Range. Meet at the Nature Center first!

What to bring: 

  • Jacket 
  • Water
  • Hat/Sunglasses
  • Closed-Toe Shoes

 

Accessibility: Parking will be outside of the Recreation Complex. Restrooms are in the gym and outside the archery range. All areas being utilized are paved. Participants will need to cross a few feet of terrain that may be rocky and less than ideal for wheelchairs if we are on the archery range lot.

This program is included in park entry fees. Programs are subject to cancellation in the event of inclement weather. Cancellations will be announced on this website, or you can call park headquarters.
