***CANCELLED***

Due to trail closures and muddy conditions, the Moonshiner's Hike has been cancelled.

Explore the interesting history of moonshine in Texas. On this hike, we will learn how people made, hid, sold, and survived on moonshine in Prohibition-Era Texas. Along the way, you will see if you  have what it takes to make it as a true Texas moonshiner by playing a game of luck.

Though this night hike is only about 1.5 miles long, it will be dark and the terrain is rocky and hilly . We will cross the Paluxy River twice, so come prepared to get your feet wet. Good hiking shoes, water, and flashlights are recommended. This hike is recommended for ages 13 and up.

Note: While we will be discussing alcohol in an educational and historical way, alcoholic beverages are STRICTLY PROHIBITED on this hike. Remember, public consumption of alcohol is not allowed in state parks.

Meet: At the East Trailhead Park Lot

Bring: Flashlight with red light, sturdy shoes that can get wet, water

Cost: Free with park admission. Park admission is free with a Texas Parks Pass.

Want to speed up your entry process? Reserve online in advance here.

You do not need to reserve a spot specifically for this program, it is included in a camping or day use permit. We do ask you make camping or day-use reservations online in advance.

Note: If you do not reserve your day pass ahead of time online, you will need to come with exact change or your Texas State Parks Pass to fill out a self-pay envelope at Park Headquarters.
