We are preparing for the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8th!  

**Only those WITH Day Use and Camping Reservations will be allowed into the park. ** 

What to expect:  

  • Come early and leave late! Traffic will be heavy entering and leaving the park. Make sure you fuel up before you get here in case of traffic delays. 
  • Print your reservation! To speed up your entry, print your reservation confirmation and present it when you arrive or have your reservation number ready.  
  • Arrive before 11AM! This will give you enough time to enter the park, find a parking spot, and walk to a viewing location. 
  • Find a viewing location! The primary viewing location will be by the Dinosaur Models. There will also be viewing locations available at the Amphitheater and the Equestrian Field. Give yourself enough time to find which viewing location is right for your party. 
  • You may lose service! In some areas of totality, cell phone networks and the internet might be jammed.

What is a Solar Eclipse? 

A solar eclipse occurs when the sun, moon and Earth are lined up in space, with the moon between the earth and the sun. 

What time is the eclipse? When is totality? 

  • 12:20pm Partial Eclipse begins  
    • The moment the edge of the Moon touches the edge of the sun is called first contact 
  • 1:38pm Totality begins  
    • The moment the edge of the Moon covers all of the Sun is called second contact 
  • 1:40pm Maximum eclipse  
    • The deepest point of the eclipse with the Sun at its most hidden 
  • 1:41pm Totality ends  
    • The moment the edge of the Moon exposes the Sun is called third contact. 
  • 3:00pm Partial eclipse ends  
    • The moment the edge of the Moon leaves the edges of the Sun is called fourth contact.
