Dia de los Muertos Sugar Skulls and more

Join Presidio High School art students in making authentic sugar skulls, alebrijes and papel picado for the ofrendas of Dia de los Muertos. Come see how this day of remembrance is celebrated on the Borderlands.
Celebrate the family lore and history of those who called Fort Leaton home for generations by joining in the cultural traditions of Dia de los Muertos!
Learn how to make sugar skulls, alebrijes and papel picado from Presidio High School students who will be making some for the ofrenda.
Festivities include: Traditional papel picado crafts, Self-guided tours of Fort Leaton, Traditional decorations, including altars for los muertos del Fortín

Accessibility: Parking available in the Fort Parking lot
What to expect: The Event starts at 10am until 3pm. PHS students will teach us how to make sugar skulls, alebrijes and papel picado
Bring: A Water bottle and sunscreen are always recommended.
Fees: Adults 13 and older, $5; Children age 12 and under, free admission. Hint: Reserve online in advance. Register at one of our Visitor Centers- Fort Leaton State Historic Site or Barton Warnock Visitor Center. Admission is free with a Texas State Parks Pass. Programs are subject to cancellation in the event of inclement weather. Cancellations will be announced on Big Bend Ranch State Park Page or you can call park headquarters.
