Go With the Flow. Join our Ranger for a walk down the Hoodoos trailhead about .7 mile to the Rio Grande and learn about the geological oddities of the Chihuahuan desert landscape. Total length of Hike is 1.4miles round trip.
- Meet: Hoodoos trailhead
- Accessibility: Parking will be available at the Hoodoos parking lot. Restrooms are available at the Arenosa Campground. Bring your own water. There are multiple difficulties of trails ranging from easy - moderate. Trip hazards, snakes, and additional hazards are possible.
- What to expect: We will get our hands dirty by using clay, sand and dirt to learn about Weathering, Erosion, Deposition and how it shapes our desert landscape at the Hoodoos.
- What to bring:
- Water
- Bug Spray
- Sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, etc.)
- Protective clothing (Long sleeves, pants, socks, closed-toed shoes/boots)
- Fees: Program is included in park entry fees- $5 per person ages 13 and older, 12 and under are free. Register at one of our Visitor Centers- Fort Leaton State Historic Site or Barton Warnock Visitor Center. Admission is free with Texas State Park Pass. Programs are subject to cancellation in the event of inclement weather. Cancellations will be announced on Big Bend Ranch State Park Page or you can call park headquarters.
