Indigenous People's Day celebration
Mon, October 13, 2025
In coordination with Big Bend Conservation Alliance, join us for this FREE event at the Presidio Library. Let's honor the Indigenous People's of the La Junta area by making corn husk dolls and learning about their culture.
The indigenous peoples of La Junta de los Rios are as diverse as the landscape itself. Just as the rivers converge, so too have the paths of many tribes and Euro-Anglos intersected at this vital crossroads. Over centuries, people from various tribes passed through this region for trade, some staying and becoming an integral part of the community’s rich tapestry. Spanish influence was also instrumental in shaping life in the Big Bend area. This blending of cultures has created a vibrant and diverse community, each group contributing its unique traditions, languages, and spiritual practices.
