Perseid Meteor Shower watch party
Sat, August 16, 2025
The Perseid (Per-see-id) meteor shower is one of the most dramatic things to see in the night sky between July and August, and is a highlight of many meteor hunters’ calendars due to its high hourly rate and bright meteors. In 2025 the Perseid meteor shower is active between 16 July and 24 August. The shower will peak 12 August.
The Perseid meteor shower is best viewed between midnight and dawn, with the peak activity often occurring in the pre-dawn hours. This is when the constellation Perseus, from which the meteors appear to radiate, is highest in the sky. While you might see some meteors as early as 10 p.m., the darkest skies and thus the most visible meteors are typically between midnight and dawn. The Perseids are caused by the Earth slamming into the debris left behind by comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle.
Come out and view the Perseids meteors with the naked eye or through a telescope! Learn how you can help preserve the night sky for a better view of the cosmos.
