Search through these tiny floating islands for the organisms that call the sargassum home.

Sargassum is a staple for beaches in Galveston. Some call it seaweed, the dunes love it, and many find it as an oasis in the vast ocean. Join a ranger on exploring this underwater forest and the critters who live here.

The beach has very little shade, so hats and sunglasses are highly recommended. Plan ahead - wear shoes & clothes that you can get wet and sandy.

  • Bring: Sunscreen, water bottle, weather appropriate clothing and beach shoes.
  • Meet: Beachside Turtle Statue
    • If you arrive after the start time, head to the beach and meet group near the shoreline.
  • Cost: Entry fee is $5 for adults and FREE for children 12 & under. Park entry free with a State Parks Pass.

*Events and programs subject to cancellation due to weather. Please contact park staff for more information and further updates.
