Eclipse Viewing Party

12:00p to 3:00p
Mon, April 08, 2024

Learn how cultures long ago explained eclipses and get an up-close look at the solar eclipse through specialized telescopes!

Join us on the mission grounds to watch the eclipse! The park will experience 96% coverage of the sun at maximum. With specialized solar-viewing telescopes, you can get an up-close view of the sun as it is nearly entirely eclipsed by the moon.

Today, most of us anticipate solar eclipses with excitement and enjoy viewing them, but that wasn’t always the case. As we observe the moon making its way across the sun, we will also learn what eclipses meant for cultures around the world before eclipses were well understood.

The moon will begin to cover the sun around 12:14PM, be at about 50% coverage at 12:59PM, and 96% coverage at 1:34PM. The moon will completely uncover the sun by 2:56PM.

Bring lawn chairs, snacks, pinhole viewers, and solar eclipse glasses and meet us on the mission grounds to learn more about this phenomenon!

Program is free with park entrance ($4 per person, free for children 12 & under). Pre-purchase of day entrance permit is recommended.
