Learn how to use the free app, iNaturalist, to help identify plants and animals and become a citizen scientist!

Have you ever seen an interesting bug, flower, or tree and wanted to know what it was? Maybe you took a picture with your smart phone to ask a friend about later? Or tried searching online for it, but three pages of online images later and you're still not sure what you saw? You're not alone, and the iNaturalist app can help.

Join a Ranger on a walk down the Aranama Nature Trail as we use the free app to identify plants and animals we come across. With a picture, time, and location, the app can help you identify your find. Then it can be shared with others and your data can be used by the scientific community! This is a great way to get kids involved in nature, satisfy your own curiosity, and help scientists get a better understanding of species diversity and distribution. So get those phones out and let's explore!

Meet on the mission porch.

Program is free with park entrance ($4 per adult, free for children 12 & under).

Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Smart phone not required.

Program is first come, first served and has an attendance maximum of 25 people. Please arrive early to guarantee a spot.

Groups of 15 or more, please call (361) 645-3405 to schedule a separate program. If attendance exceeds 30 people, large groups will not be able to join the regular program.
