Colors of the Canyon
Sat, May 17, 2025
Create beautiful artwork that captures the colors of an autumn day at Government Canyon.
Join a ranger any time during this come and go event to learn more about the plants and soils at Government Canyon, which you can use to create a memory of a spring afternoon to take with you. Pounded wildflower petals, soil, sticks, and other natural objects we're providing can be incorporated in your art...you choose!
Please don't bring any objects with you, as wood and seeds from other locations can bring pests with them. Please don't collect any objects yourself at Government Canyon. We'll provide everything you need.
Who Is Invited:
This activity is stationary (no hike), and artists of all ages are welcome. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or guardian. No pets please.
This is a public program intended for individuals or families rather than groups. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time.
Where to Meet:
This activity will be at the Group Picnic Pavilion, near the Visitor Center. Lot A or B will be the closest parking. The parking lot and path to the pavilion are paved and near an accessible restroom.
How to Prepare:
Registration is not required for this activity. Though the event is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. We often fill to capacity. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass. There is often a line at the fee booth; arrive early to get to your activity on time. Day passes may be purchased up to one month in advance.
Dress for hiking outdoors, in layers that can be added or removed as the weather changes. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat are recommended.
If ADA assistance is required, please request modifications using this form, or email accessibility@tpwd.texas.gov at least 2 weeks in advance.
Cancellation:
This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA webpage, Instagram, or Facebook.
