First Saturday Guided Hike

Join us on the first Saturday of the month for a guided hike!

Join us on our Monthly First Saturday Guided Hike. 8:00AM - 11:00AM. Knowledgeable guides discuss the flora, fauna, natural and cultural history of Government Canyon State Natural Area. Length of hike and interpretive topic(s) will vary depending on the group.

Open to ages 12 and up; minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Group size is limited to just 15 people. No pets please. Meet at the rainwater harvesting tower at the Visitor Center.

Reservations are required. Reserve your spot online at https://friendsofgovernmentcanyon.org/

Registration opens on Saturday two weeks prior to the event and closes at noon the Thursday before the event. Sorry, no group registrations.

Though the hike is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. The Natural Area’s front gates open at 7AM and the hike begins promptly at 8AM. Plan to arrive early as Saturday mornings can be very busy. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass.

Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear for hiking over rough terrain. Bring two liters of water per person, and a snack.

Plan to be at the Visitor Center no later than 7:45AM. The hike starts promptly at 8:00AM.

SPECIAL NOTE: Reserving a Day Pass is not the same as making a program reservation!

This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA website, twitter feed or Facebook page.
