Nature Journaling

2:00p to 4:00p
Sat, February 22, 2025
Lisa Cole
(210) 688-9055, x2010

Slow down and deepen your experience of the natural world with mindful observations.

Would you like to explore some techniques for improving memory, expressing creativity, building scientific skills, and increasing your connection to nature? Journaling regularly can do all this and more. We’ll help you get started with artist-quality tools, a variety of journaling prompts, and a non-judgmental, sharing atmosphere.

Who Is Invited:

This activity is open to ages 10 and up and includes both a seated activity and a short hike. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time.

Where to Meet:

Park in Lot C and meet at the Amphitheater. There is a gravel path leading from the parking lot to the amphitheater, a distance of about 120'. The amphitheater is near an accessible restroom.

How to Prepare:

Registration is NOT required. Though the activity is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. We often fill to capacity. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass. Day passes can be reserved beginning one month before the date of your visit.

We will provide colored pencils and sketchpads, but you will need to bring a blanket or portable chair to sit on while journaling. You are welcome to bring your own art supplies if you’d like.

Dress for hiking outdoors. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 1 liter of water per person.

If ADA assistance is required, please request modifications using this form, or email accessibility@tpwd.texas.gov at least 2 weeks in advance.

Cancellation:

This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA webpage, Instagram, or Facebook.
