Fall Plant Walk

9:00a to 12:00p
Sun, November 03, 2024
Lisa Cole
(210) 688-9055, x2010

Join us as we search for fall colors, late bloomers and other interesting plants on this guided walk.

Spring isn't the only time to find wildflowers in Central Texas...there is a second, shorter blooming season for many plants in the fall. The leaves of flameleaf sumac, western soapberry, little bluestem, and a few other plants have vivid fall colors that liven up the landscape, too. Come out and take a look! This is a moderate intensity hike; participants must be able to walk over rocky, uneven ground.

Who Is Invited:

This hike is open to ages 8 and up. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

Reservations required! Reserve your spot at the Friends of Government Canyon website. Registration opens on Saturday two weeks prior to the event and closes at noon the Thursday before the event. The hike is limited to 12 participants.

This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time.

Where to Meet:

Meet at the Frontcountry Trailhead. Lot C will have the closest parking.

How to Prepare:

Though the activity is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. We often fill to capacity. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass. Day passes can be reserved beginning one month before the date of your visit.

Dress for hiking outdoors. Wear layers that can be taken on or off as the day's weather changes. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a hat are recommended. Bring at least one liter of water per person and a snack if you like.

If ADA assistance is required, please request modifications using this form, or email accessibility@tpwd.texas.gov at least 2 weeks in advance.

Cancellation:

This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA webpage, Instagram, or Facebook.
