First Day Hike: What a View!
Mon, January 01, 2024
Start the new year with an adventure on the Bluff Spurs Trail.
This hike is approximately 4 miles in length with a fair amount of elevation gain over rocky, rugged terrain. The hike leads to an amazing overlook where you can get a real sense of the canyon that is our namesake. Bring your lunch and enjoy lunch with a view. Open to ages 10 and older; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.
Meet at the Frontcountry Trailhead in parking lot C. Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for rough trails; bring two (2) liters of water PER PERSON, lunch, and a snack if you like. Open to the first 15 who check in at the Frontcountry Trailhead between 10:30-10:45 a.m.
Plan to arrive early as mornings can be very busy. The Natural Area’s front gates open at 7AM; plan to check in at the Frontcountry Trailhead and be ready to go no later than 10:45 a.m. The hike starts promptly at 11:00 a.m.
Though the activity is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. We often fill to capacity. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass. Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the hike! The hike is limited to the first 15 participants to check-in with the hike leader.
This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA webpage, Instagram, or Facebook.
