First Saturday Guided Hike
Sat, July 06, 2024
Join dedicated volunteers for an informative and FUN hike at Government Canyon SNA.
Knowledgeable guides discuss the flora, fauna, natural and cultural history of Government Canyon State Natural Area. Hike recurs most months, length of hike and interpretive topic(s) will vary depending on the group.
Hike is open to ages 10 and older. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No pets please. Meet at the rainwater harvesting tower at the Visitor Center.
Program Reservations NOT Required! This hike is limited to 15 participants.
Though the hike is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. The Natural Area’s front gates open at 7AM and the hike begins promptly at 8AM. Plan to arrive early as Saturday mornings can be very busy. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass. Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the hike! The hike is limited to the first 15 participants to check-in with the hike leader.
Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear for hiking over rough terrain. Bring two liters of water per person, and a snack.
Plan to be at the Visitor Center no later than 7:45AM. The hike starts promptly at 8:00AM.
This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA webpage, Instagram, or Facebook.
