Full Moon Hike

Join us for a short hike in the Frontcountry under the silvery light of the moon.
Knowledgeable guides will discuss the moon, nocturnal wildlife, Government Canyon history, and more. The hike is approximately one-mile round trip over fairly level terrain.
Who Is Invited:
Hike is open to ages 10 and older. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.
This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time.
Where to Meet:
Meet at the Rock Garden beside the Visitor Center. Please be in place and ready to go no later than 6:00 pm. Reservations required! Reserve your spot at the Friends of Government Canyon website. Registration opens on Saturday two weeks prior to the event and closes at noon the Thursday before the event.
How to Prepare:
Though the hike is free, all Natural Area entrance fees apply. Please arrive early. To save time at the Fee Booth on crowded days and ensure entrance, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass. Day passes can be reserved beginning one month before the date of your visit.
Dress for hiking outdoors; comfortable shoes, bug spray and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 1 liter of water per person.
