Grit and Grace: Women's History Hike

Celebrate Women’s History Month with a guided hike at Government Canyon.
Learn the history of Government Canyon’s trailblazing women and hear stories about the positive impacts they made on the canyon. Hike distance will be approximately 5 miles over easy to moderate terrain.
Who is Invited:
Hike is open to anyone age 12 and older. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.
This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time.
Registration & Fees:
Program reservations are NOT required for this hike! The hike is limited to the first 15 participants to check-in with the hike leader.
Though the hike is free, all Natural Area entrance fees apply. The Natural Area’s front gates open at 7:00 AM and the hike begins promptly at 9:00 AM. Plan to arrive early as Saturdays can be very busy. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass. Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the hike!
When & Where to Meet:
Meet at the Amphitheater in Parking Lot C. Open to the first 15 who check in at the at the Amphitheater between 8:30 and 8:45 AM. The hike starts promptly at 9:00 AM.
What to Wear & Bring:
Dress for hiking outdoors. Comfortable shoes/boots, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat recommended. Wear layers that can be added or removed as weather conditions change. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and snacks.
