Grit and Grace: Women's History Month Hike

Learn about the trailblazing women who impacted Government Canyon on this 9-mile hike.

Come celebrate Women’s History Month with a guided hike at Government Canyon State Natural Area. Along the way, you will learn the history of Government Canyon’s trailblazing women and hear stories about the positive impacts they made on the canyon.

Hike distance will be approximately 9 miles covering uneven terrain with moderate elevation changes.

Who is Invited:

Hike is open to anyone age 12 and older. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

Registration & Fees:

Registration is NOT required for this hike. Though the hike is free, all Natural Area entrance fees apply. To save time at the Fee Booth and ensure entrance on crowded days, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass. Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the hike! The hike is limited to the first 15 participants to check-in with the hike leader.

When & Where to Meet:

Meet at the Rainwater Harvesting Tower beside the Visitor’s Center. Open to the first 15 who check in at the Rainwater Harvesting Tower between 7:30 and 7:45 AM. The hike starts promptly at 8:00 AM.

What to Wear & Bring:

Dress for hiking outdoors. Comfortable shoes/boots, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat recommended. Wear layers that can be added or removed as weather conditions change. Bring at least 3 liters of water per person and snacks.
