So, you’ve watched the eclipse from the North Bluff Spur Overlook – NOW WHAT? Why not take a guided hike with the trail guide who has been at the overlook during the eclipse?

So, you’ve watched the eclipse from the North Bluff Spur Overlook – NOW WHAT? Do you head straight back to your car, leave the Natural Area, and get stuck in traffic with everyone else who has been away from home watching the eclipse? Instead, you can choose to join a guided hike! You'll hike a loop from Bluff Spurs to Sendero Balcones, then down Wildcat Canyon to the Joe Johnston Route and back to the Visitor Center. By the time you get back, traffic should have thinned out and you should be able to get home more quickly.

You must already be at the North Bluff Spur Overlook to participate in this hike. Be sure you are prepared to hike about 4.5 miles after the eclipse on rocky, uneven terrain with some elevation change. Open to ages 10 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please. Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for rough trails; bring AT LEAST two liters of water PER PERSON, a snack, and lunch.

Registration is not required for this hike. Though the hike is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass.

This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA webpage, Instagram, or Facebook.
