Kids' Nature Journaling

Start your own nature journal to take along on your outdoor adventures.

Journaling is a mindful practice that can help kids slow down, hone observational skills, and build a deeper connection to the natural world. Bring the whole family, and we’ll help you get started. All materials provided.

This activity is open to all ages and includes both a seated activity and a short hike. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please. We will provide colored pencils and a take-home journal, but you will need to bring a blanket or portable chair to sit on while journaling. You are welcome to bring your own art supplies if you’d like.

Registration is NOT required. Though the activity is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. We often fill to capacity. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass. Meet at the Amphitheater. Lot C has the closest parking.

This is a public program intended for families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time.

Dress for hiking outdoors. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat are recommended. Wear layers that can be added or removed as weather conditions change. Bring at least 1 liter of water per person.

This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA webpage, Instagram, or Facebook.
