Get ready for the upcoming solar eclipses and make a pinhole viewer with Friends of Government Canyon volunteers.

Government Canyon will be in the perfect viewing path for the Oct. 14, 2023, and April 8, 2024, solar eclipses.  Join our volunteers as we teach you about solar eclipses and how to safely view them.  We will even guide you in building your own viewing device; a pinhole viewer; to take home for safe viewing!

Open to all ages; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

Registration/reservations for this program are NOT required! Though the program is free, Natural Area entry fees apply.  To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass

Please arrive no later than 8:45AM.  Meet in the Exhibit Gallery next to the Visitors’ Center. The Natural Area front gates open at 7AM; plan to be in the Exhibit Gallery ready to go no later than 8:45AM. The program begins at 9AM.

Dress for the weather.  The Exhibit Gallery is a covered space, but open-air. You may bring water and snacks if you like. Please bring an empty box approximately 9" x 7" x 3" for your pinhole viewer. Examples are empty cereal, shoe, or cracker boxes. The longer the box, the bigger the image. We will have a limited number of boxes available; if you can bring one, it would be appreciated!  All other supplies for the viewer will be provided.

This program is will take place rain or shine!  Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA’s main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA twitter feed or Facebook page.
