Join us on a trip back in time with a short but beautiful hike to the historic Kallison Ranch complex.

This after-work, end-of-the-week hike will take you to the historic Kallison Ranch complex. Not normally open to the public, you will be treated to some incredible scenic views while learning about one of Government Canyon’s founding families. We'll walk back to the parking lot as the sun is setting, giving us a chance to view this closed area at a time of day when few visitors see it.

The hike is approximately 2.5 miles round trip over sections of moderately rough terrain. We will discuss how Texas was settled in the late 1800s and learn about the highly influential Kallison family and their legacy.

Hike is open to ages 10 and older. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

Registration is NOT required for this hike. Though the hike is free, all Natural Area entrance fees apply. To save time at the Fee Booth on crowded days and ensure entrance, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass

Meet at the Rock Garden beside the Visitor Center. Please be in place and ready to go no later than 5:45 pm. Timing is critical on this particular hike, and we will start promptly at 6 pm.

The last portion of the hike will be after sunset, so please bring a flashlight or headlamp to light your way home. Dress for hiking outdoors with layers that can be added as the evening's temperature changes. Comfortable shoes, bug spray and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and a snack.

This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at (210) 688-9055, or go to GCSNA’s website, Instagram, or Facebook page.
