Beat the Burn: Hiking Safely in Texas Summers

Join us to learn about introductory survival and outdoor skills to keep you safe while hiking in Texas State Parks!

Is your day pack ready for hiking out in the Texas summer heat? If you were to get stranded and find yourself in an unfamiliar situation when enjoying the outdoors, would you know what to do?

Join the park rangers of Guadalupe River State Park to learn about introductory survival and outdoor skills!

We will take a look at:
-The 10 Essentials
-Navigation basics: learn how to use a compass and natural landmarks to find your way in unfamiliar territory.
-Shelter building: learn how to construct shelters using natural materials to protect yourself from the elements.
-Fire starting: master the art of making fire using primitive methods and modern tools (demonstration provided.)
-Knot-tying

Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast or a novice adventurer, this program is perfect for anyone looking to enhance their wilderness knowledge. Don't miss out on this opportunity to gain valuable skills that could one day save your life.

Who: Recommended for ages 8 and up; please no pets

Cost: Free with park admission; Adults: $7, Children 12 & under: Free
