Big Sit - Great Texas Birding Classic

Join our Great Texas Birding Classic team and count birds along with us!

What: The Big Sit is a stationary birdwatching event where we will count birds from our designated 50' circle at the Wildlife Viewing Station. We are competing with teams from around the state to see who can identify the greatest number of species!

Who: Everyone can join! The Big Sit requires no hiking as we sit and look for birds!

When: Starts at 8:00am, come and go event

Where: Wildlife Viewing Station*

Bring: Comfortable clothing, sunscreen, water, and a hat. Limited quantity of binoculars will be available, but feel free to bring your own!

Registration is not required to participate in this event. The app "eBird" will be used to identify the birds we hear. It is recommended you have it pre-installed on your phone to make participation easier. 

*The Wildlife Viewing Station requires a gate code. Check in at Headquarters to recieve both the code and your permit for the day. 

Park admission is free with a Texas State Parks Pass. On busy weekends, reserve your day use pass early online! Please note: You do not need to register or make a reservation for this event, just be sure you have a day pass purchased for everyone attending.
