First Day of Summer Hike
Sun, June 21, 2026
Let's kick off the first day of summer with a morning hike!
Summer is here! Sunday, June 1st is the "longest day" of the year (longest period of sunlight hours) and also the shortest night of the year. Let's get outside and see what plants and animals are out and about this time of year in the state park.
We will hike the south portion of our Onion Creek Trail. This loop is approximately 1.5 miles of mostly grass trail and has a view of the lake on the south end of the trail. Our trail map is available online here: https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-arrowhead/map.
Meet: At the Equestrian Area. Parking is available, but not restrooms. Restrooms are located at the boat ramp, swim beach, and the campground.
What to bring: Please dress for weather and bring any hiking essentials needed. Water, sun protection, and bug repellent are recommended.
This program is free to attend with paid park entrance ($4 per adult, kids 12 and under are free), or a Texas State Park Pass.
