Join us for Snake Safety experience at Lake Whitney State Park! Learn about the various snakes of Central Texas, their habitats, and how to stay safe around them. Don't miss this hands-on opportunity to become more confident and knowledgeable about snakes in the wild!
Learn how to stay safe this summer while enjoying the great outdoors.
Stop at HQ to sign up. Pick up your Slither Smart checklist. Then head out on a self-guided walk behind the office to learn about snakes. Once you are done, return to HQ no later than 4 p.m. to show us your answers and get a fun snake sticker.
What to bring:
- Sturdy walking shoes/boots
- Hat & sunscreen
- Water & snacks
- Insect repellant
Come learn how to identify common snakes from Central Texas, learn their habitats, learn who is venomous and non-venomous, and how to tell snakes by their patterns. Learn smart safety tips for hiking and outdoor fun. Learn fun and surprising snake facts. Most importantly, learn why snakes are important to our environment.
Be sure to reserve your day passes before the event or contact the reservation desk at (512) 389-8900, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Reminder: Be sure to stop at park headquarters to check in or pay your entry fees before the activity.
The trail may have some stickers (burrs) and we highly recommend using closed-toe shoes.
