Snipe Hunt

Ever searched for Easter eggs after dark? It's fun for the whole family – and that’s no joke! Registration required.

Join us for our 13th annual Snipe Hunt at Lockhart State Park! In this program, “snipes” (decorated Easter eggs) will be hidden on park trails. Snipe eyes reflect the light of your flashlight, so join us after dark for the hunt!

We will have two Snipe Hunt start times: 8:00pm and 8:30pm. Your group of 2-5 individuals will need to register for a start time in advance (see below). Before your start time, your group will sign in with us at Park HQ and be assigned 1 color of snipes to “hunt." You must stay for our safety briefing before you start, and you will ONLY be allowed to pick up snipes of the color you're assigned! Recommended for ages 4+.

Registration: 
Participants must register for a start time to attend. Registration is online only. We do not take registration requests via email or phone. Please register only if you’re sure you can attend, and if your plans change, please email lauren.hartwick@tpwd.texas.gov or call (512) 398-3479 to cancel so that someone else can have that spot. Unfortunately, there is no way for you to change or cancel your own registration once submitted. Folks must register in groups of 2-5 individuals. Your group will be assigned one color of snipes to find. You must listen to our safety briefing before the hunt begins and check out with us after you are done. Children under 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult. If you want to hunt with another group, please check in together to be assigned the same trailhead. Prepare: 
Bring water, a flashlight, and a snipe container (Easter basket). Wear weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, and bug repellent. Expect to hike at least 1 mile during this event. Please carpool and leave weapons and pets at home. Save time during check-in by paying your entry fees online in advance! Link here. 

Meet:
At the Park Headquarters Building. If you registered for the 8:00pm start time, please arrive by 7:45pm (you must be early so that we can get you checked in by 8:00pm). If you registered for the 8:30pm start time, please arrive between 8:15-8:25pm and wait until the first waive leaves before you approach Park HQ.

Fees: 
Hunt is free with paid entry to the park. Regular park entrance fees are $3/adult, free for children 12 & under.
