Lost Maples First Day Hike

Start 2022 with a First Day Hike searching for a Monkey Rock, a cool Grotto, a scenic overlook, and an optional polar plunge in the spring fed pond.

Lost Maples First Day Hike - one to five mile hike

  • Meet at the day-use parking lot by the East Trail trailhead at 9:00 am
  • What to bring - good hiking footwear, seasonal clothes, plenty of water and snacks, optional trekking pole or hiking stick, change of clothes if you are doing the polar plunge, and the excitement of starting the new year with a state park hike!
  • Ranger Allen Scott will begin the hike at the trailhead for a short one mile hike to the Monkey Rock. You will have the option to return to the parking lot on your own if you don't want to continue. 
  • Hike will continue another 1/4 mile to the Grotto.  Again, you will have the option to return to the parking lot on your own. 
  • STEEP climb up to higher elevation to view the canyon
  • STEEP climb down to the pond - optional polar plunge. 
  • One mile to return to the parking lot for a total of five miles. 
  • DOGS are allowed but MUST be kept on a leash and under your control at all times. 
  • COST is free with your paid park entrance fee of $6 per person anyone 13 years old or older.
