Learn how to ethically and efficiently forage for Texas plants and fungi in this hands on program.

Where: At the Bridge

When: 1-2:30pm 8/10/24

Foraging is an art that is inextricably linked to the history of mankind. One of the earliest and longest lived methods of attaining sustenance, foraging is something that can be fun in the modern day and may even save you in a pinch.

Come on down to the bridge where we'll take a hike around the Island to find some of the edible plants and fungi that are present. Please feel free to bring a field guide along to help with identification.

WARNING: We will be looking at edible organisms, but for safety purposes and because it is illegal to forage in state parks we will be looking and learning, not picking.

  • Bring: Water, sunscreen, and bug spray.
  • Meet: At the Bridge
  • Cost: Entry fee is $4 for adults 13+ and FREE 12 & under (Park entry free with Texas State Park Pass.).
