Solar Radiation: Friend or Foe?

10:00a to 1:00p

The Sun is in both parts a deadly laser and the progenitor of life on Earth. Join us at the park where we'll be doing some activities teaching about both sides!

Where: At the Beach area

When: 10-1pm 8/3/24

The Sun is something that can elicit many conflicting feelings. A beautiful sunset can bring great joy, while the effects of exposure to the Sun, like the sunburns we know all too well of here in Texas, can bring more negative emotions.

Join us at the beach area where we'll have several activities like cyanotyping, looking for sunspots, bubbles, and a display of the affects of radiation organized to show how the Sun's energy can be a great positive and how to keep safe from the negatives.

  • Bring: Water and sunscreen.
  • Meet: At the Beach area
  • Cost: Entry fee is $4 for adults 13+ and FREE 12 & under (Park entry free with Texas State Park Pass.).
