Capture the Cosmos

Ready to take your astrophotography to the next level?

Join expert photographer and our favorite night sky enthusiast, Chris, for tips and techniques, like light painting and equipment recommendations, to make your night sky shots really shine!

⚠️ Important: This program is for intermediate to advanced photographers who are confident using their own gear (manual mode, tripod setup, and lens settings). This is not a beginner’s photography class. Beginners are welcome to watch, learn, and enjoy the stars, but instruction on basic camera functions will not be provided.

Meet: 8:00 pm @ the Lakeside Day Use Area

Bring: Red light flashlight/headlamp, water, bug spray, a chair, camera, tripod, and a fast lens (f/2.8 or faster). Plus your best dark sky etiquette!

Cost: Free with park admission (or free with a Texas State Parks Pass). Arriving after hours? Please use the self-pay station at Park HQ.

After Hour Passes: You can reserve your pass online here. If you do not reserve your day pass ahead of time online, you will need to come with exact change or your Texas State Parks Pass to fill out a self-pay envelope at the Front Office.

Note: This event is subject to cancellation due to weather conditions and cloud cover. Please call our office at (254) 435-2536 during operating hours (8:00 am - 4:45 pm) to check on the program's status.
