Fire in State Parks Hike

Join park staff for a guided morning hike around our Nabedache Prairie and learn the world of prescribed fire!

Join us for a deep dive into the role that fire has in preserving our forests and grasslands and the tools and tricks that wildland firefighters deploy!

We will meet at the commemorative mission where park staff will show off the tools and gear that wildland firefighters use in the field and then we will take a hike around the Nabedache Prairie and see how important controlled burns are for Texas's ecosystems.

This hike is easy to slightly moderate in difficulty, about a mile and a half long on relatively flat terrain. Please be sure to hydrate before this hike and don't forget to bring the bug spray!

Where: We will meet at the Commemorative Mission in the Camping Loop; restrooms available before and after hike.

When: October 9 @ 9:30 AM.

Cost: Regular admission into the park: $4/person. Children 12 and under (and carriers of a valid Texas State Parks Pass) get in for free!
