Beginner Kayaking on the Bayside

Come enjoy a beginner-friendly kayaking adventure on the wild and lesser-known bayside of Mustang Island! *Registration Required*

Join a ranger in this beginner-friendly program to learn about the basics of kayaking and kayaking safety and then get a chance to try your skills in the shallow waters of Fish Pass!

Our paddling program group will gather at the Park Headquarters parking lot at 9:30AM for checking-in and will plan to be on the water between 10:00AM - 12:00PM.

This program is weather dependent. An email address and phone number must be provided when registering in case we have to cancel.

Limited spots available. Registration is required, and you can do it online! Maximum of 4 people per reservation. Registered participants will be contacted via email so please check all messages.

Before you can join us:

• Park entry fee paid before trip.
• Must be 10 years old to participate. Anyone registered under the age of 15 must share a 2-seater kayak with an adult. Make sure that enough adults will be attending with your group to meet this requirement.
• Close-toed shoes and life jackets must be worn during trip.

What to expect:

• Prepare for a water-based activity in direct sunlight. (Suggested weight limit for kayaks = 250 lbs.)
• Free safety and paddling lesson
• Free gear use (kayak, paddle, and life jackets)
• Small group setting with ranger guide and park volunteers
• 1.5-hour paddling trip through Fish Pass, over sea grass beds and among mangrove corridors.
• Anything that goes out on the tour may get wet, muddy, salty, or completely submerged.

Cost: Free with park admission. Park admission is $7 for everyone 13 years or older, free for 12 and under. It is recommended that you reserve your day-use entry for the park and this program in advance by visiting our online reservation system.
