Stargazing by the Shore
Adventure away from a well-lit world and explore our cosmos through the dark skies of Mustang Island!
Spend an hour stargazing with a ranger and astronomy volunteers, and discover the importance of preserving the darkness of our night skies!
Prepare: Our astronomy programs are weather and cloud cover dependent. Brief updates and event cancellations will be posted here for the upcoming event. The program will be held in our Day Use parking area, and if you decide to stargaze on the shore then a flashlight and closed-toe/water shoes are recommended for safety.
Bring: Folding chairs, bug repellent, clothing layers for cooler evenings, red light flashlights or headlamps only while in program area (white light sources hinder night vision!). For nighttime safety we only allow service animals, no pets please.
Meet: Arrive early for parking in our Day Use parking lot, just head straight after passing the entrance booth. Program will begin at 7:00PM. For park entry fees, please use self-pay station at the park headquarters parking lot before or after the program.
Fees: Free with park admission and no sign up required. Park admission is $7 for everyone 13 years and older, and free for 12 and under. Self-pay station is available at the park headquarters parking lot for payment after hours, or you can reserve your park entrance pass in advance online.
Please email the Event Contact for information and guidance on bringing your own telescope for the program.
