Join us in an official bird counting event!
Join us at our 1st annual Big Sit for the Great Texas Birding Classic!
The Birdenales Birding team invites you to sit and bird with us next week! Thursday May 1st we’ll be having our Great Texas Birding Classic event to survey bird species here at the park! All are welcome to come sit or stand with our park rangers as we count bird species to add to our yearly count. We will be setting up on the river for several hours and anyone can come by to learn about the birds we are seeing/hearing during that time. Park rangers will be there talking about conservation programs like GTBC, bird migrations, and how we can improve bird habitats around you! Everyone is free to join or pass through during the event and we’ll have loaner binoculars and spotting scopes! Come help us identify birds or learn how to tell their bird calls apart from each other!
Join us at Trammell Crossing from 12am to 12pm. Event is free to join after park entrance fees. You can stay the entire time or just a few minutes! Rangers will be present to help identify birds and talk on any number of subjects from at least 7am till around 4:30pm.
To get to the spot we'll be birding from, park at the Picnic Area, hike on Coyote Crossing Trail, and when that trail ends at Trammell Crossing Trail, turn left and hike down to the river. We'll be at the Crossing itself!
- Hike is over rough terrain with some steep sections.
- Wear clothing comfortable for the weather.
- Kids and dogs are welcome as long as they can quietly observe with us.
- No birding experience needed! All are welcome to join in.
- RSVP to Stephen.Garmon@tpwd.texas.gov if you would like us to save you a pair of binoculars or if you have any questions about the event.
