Join our ranger in hiking along the river, surveying wildlife emerging for spring!
Hackenburg loop follows a beautiful prairie section of the park, before descending down into the river bed, following the river upstream. We'll be looking for any wildlife we can see, hear, or touch. Flowers, birds, bugs, and reptiles will be our main focus, but who knows what we might find!
- Download an app like "Seek" to help you identify plants along the hike, "Merlin" to help you identify bird calls, and iNaturalist to help us post what we find along the way for researchers to use!
- You can now reserve your entrance permits to this park! Go to our Reservation page to purchase your day pass ahead of time!
- This hike is about 1.5 miles long with some steep and some rocky terrain and ends at Pedernales Falls. Wear comfortable hiking clothing and boots.
- Hike meets at the Main Falls Parking lot.
- Child and Dog friendly.
- Normal entrance fees required to enter park, no additional fees to attend event.
