Join Sea Center Texas for a morning of catch-and-release!

  • Bring your own equipment (Sea Center will supply volunteers with nets, however, you are responsible for bringing your own rods, bait, chairs, sunscreen, water, etc.)
  • Fishing is for youth 16 and younger, accompanied by an adult
  • Bring your own bait (dead shrimp or squid. Imported shrimp is NOT allowed)
  • No artificial lures
  • Barbless hooks only. No treble hooks, steel leaders, corks, or floats allowed
  • Only one rod per eligible youth can be used at a time
  • No rod holders or chumming allowed
  • Rods and reels should be lightweight to medium fishing action. It is recommended that line strength should be a minimum of twelve pounds, but 20 is recommended.
  • Leader line should be a minimum of twenty pounds.
  • Rigging: A Carolina rig with a 4/0 or 5/0 barbless circle hook is recommended (see diagram below). Barbless hooks can be purchased at local sporting goods stores. If your hooks are barbed the barb must be pinched down. This is required in order to minimize damage to the mouth of the fish.
