Prairie Plant-a-thon
Sat, November 02, 2024
Join us for our annual Prairie Plant-a-thon volunteer event where we put thousands of native grasses and forbs back into the prairie.

Help us restore the coastal prairie! This is a unique ecosystem that covered the landscape of Houston, and provides habitat for many birds, amphibians and mammals.
When: Saturday, November 2, 8:30-11:00am
Where: Parking on site. The event will take place in the park's prairie.
What to expect: Participants will be digging holes and planting 1-gallon native prairie plants that have been grown in the park's nursery in the prairie. We will provide all tools necessary and will provide a brief orientation.
Wear: Long pants, close-toed shoes that can get muddy, and any other accessories to keep you comfortable! Prepare to get dirty!
Bring: Bug spray, SPF, a wide-brim hat, 1 L of water per hour of work. Bring your own work gloves. All tools will be provided.
After you sign-up, the volunteer coordinator will reach out to you to place you in one of three time slots (8:30-11am, 9-11am, 9:30-11am). Time slots are available on a first come, first served basis.
Minimum age: 8 years old. For those in your party under 13, email Lauren.seck@tpwd.texas.gov to register. Those under 13 must bring a signed waiver.
