Plant Life on the Salt Marsh
Saltgrass
Distichlis spicata
Saltgrass grows in dense stands in salt marshes, around bay shores and along Bulf Coast beaches. It provides food for Canada geese and other waterfowl along their migration route.
The roots and runners of saltgrass and other marsh plants help bind the marsh's soil and trap more as mud settles out of the water.
