Description

The Angelina Neches/Dam B WMA is located in Jasper and Tyler Counties in the fork of the Angelina River, Neches River and the B.A. Steinhagen Reservoir. The WMA covers 12,636 acres of which about 7,000 acres are a portion of the Reservoir. The adjoining land acreage consists of hardwood bottomland, vegetation and river floodplains. The topography is generally flat with many sloughs and ridges. The WMA boasts several species of native mature hardwood trees, including; water oak, cypress, sweet gum, and red oak. Additionally, upland sites support stands of mature loblolly and shortleaf pine. The US Army Corps of Engineers and Parks and Wildlife provide management to the water and land resources. The dam was built to provide water for rice farming, but is now part of the flood control for the local area and freshwater flow into the Neches River bay area system. Visitors have the opportunity to hunt, fish, camp, bike ride, hike, view wildlife and to photograph scenery and native wildlife in an extraordinary ecosystem.
